Great Haywood to Hartshill
Middle Northwich motor Sickle
1st & 2nd January 2010
CREW: Matt Parrott
FRIDAY 1ST:
I set off from Great Haywood at 7am on New Years Days, only a thin layer of ice
over the canal this morning, which made better boating than how we left 2009,
when we were breaking through ice over 2" thick. I turned onto the Coventry
Canal at midday, passing FMC motors Dove and Marquis moored at Fradley Junction.
Headed up to Glascote locks where the ice was becoming increasingly thicker and
started to become a stuggle - yet again. Eventually reached Atherstone Bottom
Lock by 6pm where I moored for the night.
SATURDAY 2ND: Had an 8am start this morning, nice and quiet up Atherstone -
locks weren't too thick with ice, so a quick clear of the gates with the keb and
all was ok. Reached the top by 9:45am, and continued across to Hartshill where I
moored for 11am. Will stay here until the Ashby thaws out.

Finally I am free for a day and the Ashby is thawed out, so I set off from
Hartshill for 8:30am, turned onto the Ashby Canal for 10am and arrived at
Sickle's new home mooring at Bridge 23, Stoke Golding.
