Middle Northwich Boats...
Tucana & Taurus...
Tucana is believed to be the British Waterways boat Zodiac with the fleet number
B10, she was a refuelling craft for British Waterways until around 2005 when she
was up for sale on the British Waterways auction, she did not sell because BW
removed her and several other historic craft from the auction. Now being leased
to 'Moving Forward'.
During the war Taurus was on hire to the War Department and went to GUCCo in
1945 as a maintenance boat and went on the SE division. During the 1960s she was
used a BW landing stage on the River Trent. After nationalisation Taurus was
bought by a firm on the Erewash Canal and used as a floating pontoon.
Threefellows Carrying Company bought Taurus so she was used on the River Soar
carrying gravel at Thurmaston when she was paired with Chiswick for several
years.
